Ran an Expert for local deliveries and some longer motorway runs. First thing you notice is it feels more like a big MPV than a typical panel van. Ride is genuinely comfy even when it’s not loaded much, and the cabin noise is kept down better than I expected. The basic kit is fine (cruise, Bluetooth/DAB etc) and the 7-inch screen is easy enough, just don’t expect loads of features.

Downsides? Storage up front is a bit annoying. Those little covered bins are tiny and the cupholders are kind of useless if you live on coffee like I do. Still, the load bay is spot on: square, easy access both sides, and that plastic lining is handy when stuff is wet or muddy.

For urban delivery work, I’d look seriously at the e-Expert. A claimed 230-mile range gives it a usable gap between charges, and it should make sense if you can charge at base overnight. It’s quiet in traffic, pulls away cleanly, and the regen paddles are handy on stop-start routes. Don’t expect much overtaking shove at motorway speed, though. Also, 100kW charging is acceptable rather than quick now, so route planning still matters.

The cabin is the bit I like most here. Peugeot’s small steering wheel and high instrument display can feel odd for the first few miles, then it starts to make sense. You can see the dials without looking through the wheel, and the van is compact enough for car parks at under 1.9m in standard form. The 11.3m turning circle matters more than fancy trim when you’re doing town drops all day. I would want the rear camera or digital mirror though, especially on the Long model. The 10-inch screen, cruise control and lane assist are decent kit for a working van.

I’ve driven plenty of mid-size vans, and the Expert stands out for how easy it is to live with behind the wheel. The ride is soft enough for rough town roads, the seats have loads of adjustment, and the auto is the one I’d choose. The manual sounds like hard work, being notchy, and the brakes can bite too sharply at first. It feels stable with a load in it. Wind noise shows up on faster runs, but it is still a decent place to spend a shift.

The standard equipment is pretty good: twin sliding doors, parking sensors, a proper steel bulkhead, phone connection and useful safety systems are all there. The camera setup is worth having if you work in tight yards, because the mirrors and general view around the van are not perfect. My issue is load space. The Expert carries 5.3m3 in standard form or 6.1m3 as a Long, which is behind a Transit Custom. Fine for tools and regular parcels, less convincing for bulky trade loads. Cabin also gets narrow with three people up front.
